Joint statement delivered by H.E. Mr. Andrii Sybiha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and H.E. Ms. Kaja Kallas, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, ahead of the UNSC High-Level Meeting on the Maintenance of Peace and Security of Ukraine

I would like to read out a statement on behalf of Ukraine, the European Union, as well as Albania, Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

We stand here together as Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine continues to inflict human suffering and destabilise global peace. This illegal, unprovoked and unjustified full-scale invasion, now in its fourth year, is a blatant violation of the UN Charter.

The international community must remain united in addressing these grave violations of international law and in supporting Ukraine’s freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.

For this reason, we stand united in solidarity with Ukraine and we jointly call the Russian Federation to stop the killing and enter meaningful negotiations with Ukraine.

We want to reiterate that intentionally directing attacks against civilians or civilian objects or causing disproportionate civilian harm is a war crime. Russia must immediately cease its indiscriminate missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities and towns. We reiterate the need to ensure accountability for the most serious crimes under international law.

In recent months, Russia has chosen the path of escalation: adhering to maximalist positions, increased attacks against innocent civilians, and conducted unprecedented and intentional violation of EU Member States’ airspace by drones and planes. Russia undermines European and global peace and security.

These actions demonstrate that Russia is the one undermining prospects for peace. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians.

Together, we urge all global partners to use their influence and maximise pressure on Russia to immediately end this unlawful aggression, work towards a just and lasting peace.

We remain unwavering in our support for Ukraine. We stand with Ukraine militarily, economically, politically and diplomatically. We support a just and lasting peace, based on international law and the UN Charter.

Our support to Ukraine is about making peace a reality.
