Statement at the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the two-state solution

Statement by H.E. Ms. Tanja Fajon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, at the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the two-state solution, co-hosted by the EU, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Norway

Thank you very much, co-chairs.

Slovenia is convinced: the two-state solution remains the only viable path to peace. Three conditions must be met:

First, a permanent and unconditional ceasefire. We all carry an undeniable moral and legal responsibility to stop further suffering and prevent genocide.

Second, a credible Palestinian Authority. It must be reformed, legitimate, and capable, supported by sustained financing, the release of withheld revenues, and free movement of its leaders.

Slovenia is pleased to join the Emergency Coalition for Palestine initiative. We view this as an essential collective effort to reinforce the Palestinian Authority at this critical juncture and to demonstrate the international community’s determination to safeguard the viability of the two-state solution. By aligning with this initiative, Slovenia underscores its readiness to work together with partners to uphold international law, strengthen Palestinian institutions, and advance a just and lasting peace.

Let me say that Hamas must not be part of the future of Palestine.

Third, humanitarian support must match the scale of the catastrophe. Our support to UNRWA must be steadfast. Slovenia does that with increased financial support and shared commitments.

Slovenia has recognized Palestine, adopted concrete measures against the ongoing conflict and the settlements, and continues to push for coordinated EU action while raising its voice in the Security Council.

We welcome the new wave of recognitions of Palestinian statehood. But recognitions alone are not enough – they must be matched with concrete, time-bound measures.

Thank you.
