PM Golob welcomes the adoption of the Pact for the Future

Prime Minister Robert Golob begins his participation in the 79th session of the UN General Assembly by attending the Summit for the Future. As part of the summit, the action-oriented Pact for the Future has been adopted with two annexes – the Declaration on Future Generations and the Global Digital Compact.

Upon the adoption of this historic document, Prime Minister Golob said: “A great start to our visit to the UN. The Pact for the Future has been adopted. It is an action-oriented document focusing on sustainable development, international peace and security, youth, science and technology which are the core priorities of the international community.”

In his speech, UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the adoption of historic documents that will usher in a shift towards a more effective, inclusive and connected multilateralism. UN chief stressed that “he will strive for its implementation until his last day in office.” He called on UN Member States to follow suit, as the Pact places the emphasis on dialogue and negotiations leading to the end of wars. Secretary-General Guterres also called for reforming the composition and working methods of the UN Security Council.
