Press release by the ten current and five incoming non-permanent members of the UN Security Council

The statement of the representatives of Algeria, Denmark, Ecuador, Greece, Guyana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Pakistan, Panama, Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, Somalia, and Switzerland at the Ministerial meeting of Elected 10 and Incoming 5 members of the UN Security Council on the margins of the 79th UN General Assembly:

We reaffirm our steadfast commitment to multilateralism, with the United Nations at its core, and underline the importance of upholding the United Nations Charter.

We reiterate our commitment to uphold international law and implement Security Council resolutions.

Deeply concerned about the increasing challenges to international peace and security and multilateralism, we underscore the importance of a responsive Security Council, which effectively addresses matters of international peace and security.

We recognize that the Security Council works best when united and therefore commit to continue building trust and advocating for transparency, efficiency and accountability of the Security Council.

We underscore the growing importance of the role of the Elected-10 members as a collective in the work of the UN Security Council and will endeavor to maximize this role.
