Joint Statement of the Core Group of the “Shared Commitments” on UNRWA
23 January 2026 – Joint Statement in support of UNRWA
Statement by the Republic of Slovenia at the Peacebuilding Commission Ambassadorial Level Meeting on Colombia
Thank you Mr. Chair for organizing this meeting and I also wish to thank the briefers for sharing your valuable insights directly from the field in Bogotá.
Mr. Chair,
I would like to begin by welcoming Colombia’s continued engagement with the Peacebuilding Commission, including the visit this week, which provides an opportunity to observe progress and support efforts to address challenges on Colombia’s pathway to building and sustaining peace.
We commend the notable progress made by the Colombian Government in implementing the Final Peace Agreement, addressing both the root causes and consequences of decades of conflict.
However, as recent events in the country demonstrate, violence, particularly in conflict-affected areas, remains of grave concern.
Mr. Chair,
A comprehensive and inclusive approach is essential for achieving sustainable peace in Colombia, one that also requires the participation of Indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities, former combatants, social leaders, women, and human rights defenders in the processes of building and sustaining peace.
The brunt of insecurity borne by these groups remains a serious concern that must be addressed effectively.
To this end, we welcome the range of projects supported by the Peacebuilding Fund that contribute to this goal, including efforts to strengthen Indigenous institutions as a foundation for long term reconciliation.
Finally, Mr. Chair,
I would like to underscore the remarkable resolve of the Colombian people to achieve lasting peace, even in the face of adversity.
Indeed, Colombia’s efforts to consolidate peace over the years continue to offer the international community valuable knowledge and experience in peacebuilding.
Allow me to reaffirm Slovenia’s full commitment to maintaining its support to Colombia going forward.
Thank you.
