Dear esteemed colleagues and partners,
We are delighted to invite you to a landmark side event commemorating the 10th International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This event is co-organized by the Permanent Mission of Slovenia, the Permanent Mission of Sierra Leone to the United Nations, and under the esteemed patronage of Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Tanja Fajon. Additionally, this event is also supported by Royal Academy of Science International Trust, and Slovenian societies VTIS, ONA VE, and ASC.
This year’s theme, “ Women in Science for SDG-3: From Research to Practice: From Research to Practice” highlights the pressing need to address systemic disparities in women’s health outcomes worldwide. As we celebrate the 10th International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we recognize the intrinsic link between women in STEM and SDG-3. Despite women’s prevalence in medical sciences, their health remains underserved, with a narrow focus on reproductive health. To address this disparity, this event aims to enhance women’s participation in STEM, integrating sex-specific differences into medical sciences to improve healthcare outcomes. Furthermore, advancing women’s health is expected to have a positive impact on the world economy, connecting SDGs 3, 5, and 8. Building on RASIT’s commitment to advancing women’s health, pioneered at the World Women’s Health and Development Forum a decade ago, this event aims to redefine women’s health, moving beyond reproductive health to encompass a more comprehensive understanding.
In addition to bridging women in STEM to women’s health and its economic impact, we will also delve into the critical role of understanding women’s mental health, which is intricately linked to their physical health.
The rationale for choosing this topic is clear: achieving gender equality in women’s health requires a multidisciplinary approach that brings together policy makers, important organizations, and experts from STEM fields, healthcare, social sciences, and mental health. By doing so, we can develop innovative solutions and inform policy changes.
Your participation in this side event will contribute to a critical conversation, inspiring collaborative action, fostering a community of practice, and advocating for policy changes that promote gender equality in women’s health. We look forward to your engagement and contributions to this pivotal discussion.
