Statement at the high-level Pledging Event on the CERF

Statement by Deputy Permanent Representative of Slovenia to the United Nations Saša Jurečko at the High-level Pledging Event on the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) for 2025

Mr. Chair,

Slovenia strongly supports CERF as the leading global emergency response fund that has been providing life-saving support with speed, predictability and flexibility for millions of people.

We are deeply concerned about the growing number of people in need of humanitarian assistance and of the increasing humanitarian funding gap. The cascading crises in recent years have exacerbated existing humanitarian crisis and created new ones. The share of world’s population, living in fragile context is higher than ever before.

In responding to humanitarian crises, we place particular attention to the protection of people living in vulnerable situations, including women, children and displaced persons. Our priorities also include global health, access to water and the respect for the international humanitarian law.

Since 2021, we have tripled our humanitarian funding, reaching 12 million EUR in 2024. We are committed to continue this positive trend in the coming years. In 2024 Slovenia has closely cooperated with UN agencies, in particular WFP, WHO and UNRWA, as well as with the ICRC.

Slovenia underlines the need for a coordinated approach, flexible funding and long-term sustainable solutions. Positive outcomes can only be secured through multilateral cooperation and mutually beneficial partnerships among all stakeholders. In this regard, the hard work and efficiency of CERF is an outstanding contribution to the humanitarian response system.

With all this in mind, I would like to reiterate Slovenia’s commitment to the fund. Slovenia made a contribution of 80.000 EUR for CERF for this year; and for 2025 I have the honour to pledge an increased contribution of 100.000 EUR.

Thank you.
