Joint Statement of the Core Group of the “Shared Commitments” on UNRWA
23 January 2026 – Joint Statement in support of UNRWA
Statement by the Republic of Slovenia at the Peacebuilding Commission Ambassadorial-Level Meeting on Lessons from Peacebuilding Success Stories
Thank you, Madam Chair,
Let me go straight into the issue.
Sustainable peace is about people. It is about ensuring that no one is left behind and that all voices, including those of women, youth, and marginalized communities, are not only heard, but empowered.
Since its establishment, Peacebuilding Commission has been the cornerstone of our collective efforts to build and sustain peace around the globe.
Over the two decades, it has responded to the calls from countries seeking support in their transitions from war to peace, from fragility to stability.
We have heard from many of them today. Yet, as we reflect on those achievements, we must also recognize the realities of today’s shifting global landscape. The number of conflicts is at a historic high – more complex, more protracted, and increasingly more interconnected with global risk factors such as climate change, economic insecurity, political instability, and disinformation. In today’s world, peace is more fragile than ever.
Peacebuilding must thus remain at the heart of our efforts to fulfil the UN’s mandate. This requires breaking down silos and forging stronger partnerships across the humanitarian, development, human rights, and peace and security pillars. It means ensuring that peacebuilding is adequately resourced, politically supported, and institutionally prioritized.
We must translate our commitments into concrete action by mobilizing the political will, necessary to strengthen the UN Peacebuilding Architecture and deliver on our shared promise – to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war.
I thank you, Madam Chair.
